The Chart Day worksession is a full-day experience with a group of 30 to 50 key managers and individuals responsible for development, installation and support of a specific project (i.e., all the people required to take the project from conception to completion). This commitment-based approach assures that all project resources stay focused and aligned to meet revenue goals and quality expectations. The level of performance requires:
- Constant, decisive attention of all managers and individual contributors involved in the effort;
- Simplicity and flexibility in the planning processes; and
- Genuine teamwork - the sharing of accountability and resources.
Chart Day focuses all team members on key milestones and creates a framework of meetings for managing and monitoring the project.
Course Objectives
- Define functional and cross-functional key deliverables.
- Identify critical path and alignment issues (i.e., overlaps and disconnects).
- Negotiate key resource and timing issues across and within functions.
- Identify/assign resource and other issues across and within functions.
- Establish a framework of meetings and tools for managing and monitoring the project.
Skill Development
In addition to achieving the above listed objectives for a particular project or projects, teams and individuals will develop skills that can be applied to all future projects, including:
- Committing to using Output, Feedback, Resource Systems (OFRs) with every Individual Contributor. OFRs include three elements: clear expectations; self-monitored feedback systems; and control of resources.
- Using a rational group decision-making process that fully utilizes the diverse perspectives and skills of all project team members.
- Developing an agreed-upon plan and establishing a common, and fast, feedback loop from Individual Contributor to senior manager for monitoring performance against plan.
Target Audience
- Experienced program managers, project managers and team leaders;
- Associated/interested functional managers;
- Individual Contributors on the project.
